GCSE subjects for marketing
Successful marketers pull from a varied skillset. Amongst other things, this might include analysing information and drawing conclusions, having a head for numbers and data, or being artistically minded.
Take a look at the table below to find out what useful skills and knowledge different subjects offer for marketing. Taking one or two of these subjects at GCSE will lay the foundations for a future marketing career.
GCSE Subject | Why it’s useful for marketing |
|---|---|
Business | Understanding why marketing is crucial for successful businesses; getting to grips with key business terms; learning about budget management. |
Graphics / Design | Creating visual, eye-catching content; learning to use editing software and other technical tools. |
Psychology | Exploring and understanding what influences human behaviour, such as why people might buy something or support a campaign. |
History / Geography | Honing research and analysis skills; practising persuasive writing. |
Maths and English are compulsory GCSEs, and both will support your marketing aspirations.
Maths helps you to understand data and finance – an important quality for marketing, particularly for roles relating to strategy. The ability to write engaging content and articulate yourself through writing is another essential skill for many marketing positions, and one that you’ll learn in English GCSE.
