The Legal and Compliance team is responsible for advising members on the DMA Code.

Members undertake a Code Consultation, whether virtually or face-to-face, to help explain the principles of the DMA Code together with the relevant UK Data Protection legislative regime, identify risks and opportunities, and share information about the current rules and upcoming policy and legal updates. The Legal and Compliance team is expected to have detailed knowledge of the DMA Code, DMA produced Guidance, and key legislative texts such as DPA 2018, UK GDPR, PECR and DUAA 2015, in addition to the CAP Code for Advertising and Direct & Promotional Marketing. The Legal and Compliance Manager will conduct Code Consultations, manage legal advice box queries, and support the Director of Legal and Compliance with the day-to-day operations and strategies of the team.

Additionally, the Legal and Compliance Manager will assist with ad hoc projects, such as Code drafting, submitting consultation responses as part of the DMA’s public policy and lobbying effort, and advising DMA Committees, Councils and Working Groups of any updates and trends in the Data Protection and Privacy field. In due course, the role will also involve training and support of any new Legal and Compliance Executive hires who will report directly to the Legal and Compliance Manager.
