In conversation with the DMA Black Marketers Council: Michael Bristow

Recognising the declining representation of black talent in data and marketing and spurred on by the racial events of 2020 in the US and UK, the DMA, Barclays, and OLIVER convened senior industry leaders to address the issue from which emerged the Black Marketers Council. The council aims to contribute to developing more ethical, diverse, and ultimately successful organisations.

In interviews hosted by Natalie Eve Roper, Founder of Embrace, council members discussed their motivations for joining, professional and personal concerns in the DEI space, and how these factors drive their ambitions.

Our final interview in the series features Michael Bristow, marketing consultant (previously Barclays and Reader's Digest), unpacking his journey with DEI and becoming an active ally, how to recognise and avoid tokenistic customer engagement with black communities, and what galvanised his spirit to better support black marketers.
