Twitter has just launched targeted Tweets, which allows brands to make relevant offers to Twitter users based on location and device.
Up until now, Promoted Tweets appeared in a user’s timeline irrespective of where they were. Twitter has been testing the new targeting feature with global brands such as Coca-Cola and has now rolled it out to all advertisers.
“Now global brands that have different launch dates for several countries can send tailored messages at different times, customised for the users in each country,” says Twitter’s product manager Kevin Weil on the company’s advertising blog on Thursday 19 July.
It also means that Android app develops can target ads so that they don’t appear on the timelines of Twitter users on desktops or iPhones.
Twitter says Promoted Tweets that users interact with are likely to appear more often. “Simply put, advertisers are rewarded for messages that resonate with audiences,” says Weil in the same blog post.
All Twitter advertisers using Promoted Tweets can access this new targeting option.
