O2 UK has launched Priority Moments, a mobile voucher scheme offering its customers location-based deals.
So far, more than 30 brands have signed up to the scheme, including Harvey Nichols, National Express, Zizzi restaurants and French Connection.
A major above- and below-the-line marketing campaign will launch this new service, which represents a move by the Telefonica-owned company to enter a space dominated by start-up such as Groupon and Foursquare.
O2’s 22 million UK customers will be able to download the free app on their iPhone or Android smartphone, but it will also work on any WAP-enabled device.
One deal looks uncannily like the hugely successful Orange Wednesday one – except O2 have extended it, offering half price adult tickets from Sunday to Thursday.
The launch of Priority Moments follows the success of O2’s Priority Tickets service, which O2 claims has made it one of the country’s largest music event ticket distributors.
Talking about Priority Moments to Mobile Today, O2’s new business director said: “It’s really good news for the retail industry because what we are doing is providing the opportunity to divert customers into stores.
“Customers look on their app and they may be only looking for one thing initially, but I have no doubt that customers looking for lunch and looking for the local Zizzi might also at that point see the other offers from other brands.”
