Twitter is likely to have greater staying power and become more valuable than Facebook, claims Rory Sutherland, vice-chair of Ogilvy & Mather.
This bold claim comes as Facebook prepares for its initial public offering, the biggest one the technology sector has ever seen on 18 May, which will value the company at $96bn.
Twitter’s potential for making money is higher than people realise, says Sutherland. It could one day become a cash cow for investors, he adds.
“I can see Facebook being superseded more easily than Twitter being superseded,” says Sutherland. “As a forum for outbursts, Twitter’s [character] limit, its haiku element is very appealing.”
