Julia Porter, ITV’s acting group marketing and research director, has joined the board of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA). The voluntary appointment will see Julia join the eight-strong board, which directs DMA policy and strategy.
Julia’s appointment follows the formation of a research partnership in 2009 between ITV and the DMA. The partnership was forged to investigate and understand the ‘multiplier effect’ on campaign results of integrating TV advertising and direct response channels. Published in 2010, the jointly-authored report, titled Response TV, found that combining TV advertising with direct marketing channels can produce an uplift in consumer response of up to 175 per cent when compared to standalone direct marketing campaigns.
Commenting on her appointment, Julia Porter said that she aims to drive the burgeoning relationship between TV and direct response channels:
“Taking a seat on the DMA board will be a great opportunity for us to raise industry awareness of the exciting campaign possibilities that exist for integrating TV with direct marketing. This is good news for any brand concerned with maximising their marketing ROI and amplifying the effectiveness of its influence on the consumer.”
Scott Logie, chair of the DMA board, welcomed Julia’s appointment, saying:
“Julia’s wealth of marketing experience in broadcast and print media will be of great value to the DMA as it evolves to meet the ever-changing needs of our members and the wider direct marketing industry. In particular, her knowledge of the complex relationship between TV and direct marketing channels will help us to change the way advertisers think about the relationship between direct and mass marketing media.”
